Description

Position: Arabic Translator and Interpreter

 

Location: Community Education Center

 

Reports To: Executive Director of School Improvement, State and Federal Programs

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred. Applicants with an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated language proficiency to interpret, translate and transcribe between Arabic and English.
  • Task performance requires native-level cultural expertise, in-depth knowledge of history, geopolitics, strategic interests, traditions, and cultural uniqueness of Arabic and regional societies.
  • Professional-level writing and reporting skills in the Arabic language.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information in clear and simple terms.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals and groups in a wide variety of highly sensitive situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Description:

  • Interpret and translate verbal communications (Arabic language to English, and English to Arabic language); provide translation services during interviews and meetings; and transcribe and analyze spoken communications.
  • Interpret and translate written communications in English and Arabic, including but not limited to district policies and procedures, parent correspondence, etc.
  • Ensure communications and translations are conveyed and understood in the proper context.
  • Observe and analyze culture-specific non-verbal indicators and cues as they relate to written or spoken communications.
  • Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions.
  • Monitoring (listening to), translating and synopsizing content of real-time oral communications recordings.
  • Accurately provide the cultural and ethnic context of translations and interpretations and provide advice to the administrator on the cultural and ethnic significance of statements, conversations, situations, documents.
  • Perform quality control of translations in Arabic to ensure that linguistic and culturally appropriate materials are available to Limited English Proficiency (LEP) audiences.
  • Provide administrative support related to specific areas of assignment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
