Description
- Make weekly, monthly, and annual inspection of school buses, or as required, in order to ensure a minimum of road failures and a maximum of safety and economy of operation.
- Report to the Head Skilled Trade Mechanic any failure of the bus which could make it unsafe for transporting students.
- Take in-service training courses where possible and practicable.
- Keep records and make reports as required.
- Obtain and keep current a Michigan CDL Group A driver’s license with applicable endorsements (P and S).
- See that all buses are started, both A.M. and P.M. Back buses out of garage, A.M. and P.M.
- Repair district vehicles as needed to maintain daily operation.
- Repair buses as needed.
- Work collaboratively with Auxiliary Service staff to promote a positive and successful transportation operation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- ASE Certification, required within 18 months of hire per CBA.
- Qualified candidates must have, or be willing to acquire, a Michigan CDL Group A driver’s license with applicable endorsements (P and S).
- Must be able to comply with all standards set forth by the Department of Transportation, including successful completion of annual physicals and pre-employment/random drug screens.
- Must have successful experience as a skilled trade mechanic. A minimum of two years previous experience, preferred.
- Possess the ability to maintain a positive working relationship with staff, students and community stakeholders.
- Demonstrate the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions in accordance with board policies and administrative guidelines.
- Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain proficiency as required skill sets change with technology and/or the needs of the district.
- Demonstrate patience, an even temperament, and calmness under stress.
- The candidate must show dependability, initiative, self-reliance, honesty, and moral conduct above reproach.
- Exhibit strong teamwork, interpersonal communication and problem solving skills as well as the ability to work as an effective team member.
